The Golf Illawarra pennant semi-finals were held on Sunday, with Links Shell Cove hosting the Illawarra pennant and White Horse Cup qualifiers and the B and C pennant at Gerringong.
Division one of the Illawarra pennant saw Kiama and Port Kembla do battle and it was Kiama who came out on top 4-1. Beau Fraser got Kiama off to a good start with a 6/4 win over Brad Watkins in the number four match. Mark Hungerford secured a second match for Kiama winning the number five match against Dennis Allen 3/1. The remaining three matches all went to the last hole. James Malin's 1 up win in the number three match ensured the win would go to Kiama. Adam Stojanovic won the number one contest defeating Jason Ward 1 up, with Port Kembla's number two Mark Crossingham being thier lone winner 1 up against Wil Daibarra. Kiama will now face Links Shell Cove in the final.
Shoalhaven Heads and The Vale contested the division two qualifying final and it would take extra holes in the number four match to decide the winner. Andrew Jacobs got Shoalhaven Head off to the perfect start winning his match 7/6 against Russell Hammond. Jarrod Woolmer got The Vale on the board holing a lengthy birdie putt on the last to hold of Lachlan Maddinson 1 up. Shoalhaven Heads went ahead again when Ian Asbury won 1up over Jason Cavanough. Paul Fairall made it 2-all winning 2/1 against Mark Johnston. The number four match between Gary Roche and Steven Townsend would be the decider, with Roche's rifle-like iron shot on the 21st hole giving Shoalhaven Heads a 3-2 victory. Shoalhaven heads will now face Wollongong in the final.
The White Horse Cup semi's saw Kiama play Gibraltar and Jamberoo 1 against Sussex Inlet 2 with the winners to meet in the final. Defending champions Kiama had three comfortable victories with Mark Jones 3/1, Harrison Jones 6/4 and Brett Rorie 3/2 all too good for their Gibraltar opponents. Scott Fleeton 1 up, Paul Knock 19th and Brendon Dodds 19th were winners for Gibraltar. The match required a play-off of the number one golfers after being locked at 3 matches all. Brendon Dodds birdied the first play-off hole to see Gibraltar progress. The other match between Jamberoo 1 and Sussex Inlet 2 resulted in a 4-2 win for Jamberoo. Shane Townsend 6/5, Peter Francis 10/8, Dylan McDonald 5/3 and Bryan Nicoll 3/2 were winners for Jamberoo, with Sussex Inlet's winners Paul Russell 5/4 and Luke Elliott 5/3.
The Vale and Links Shell Cove will contest the B pennant final after winning their respective semi-finals. The Vale were the first team through to the final winning 3-2 with three of the five matches going the distance. Greg Murphy 4/3, Steven Hailstone 1 up and Brett Murphy 4/2 were winners for the Vale. Lee Maddinson and Ray Gonella were both 1 up winners for Shoalhaven Heads. Links Shell Cove were 4-1 winners over Moss Vale in the other semi. Winners for Links Shell Cove were Mitch Phelps 3/2, Curtis Heniuk 6/4, James Toomey 19th and Rob Andreeski 1 up and Scott Winsor 3/2 was Moss Vale's winner.
Kiama will look to defend their C pennant title after a 4-1 win in their semi-final against Jamberoo. Kiama's winners were Jim Cooper 4/3, Graham Murtagh 3/2, Steve Starr 7/5 and John Keiley 6/5 and Tom Zimmerman was a 5/3 winner for Jamberoo. Kiama's opponent will be Port Kembla after Port run out 3-2 winners against Link Shell Cove. Russell Hayes 7/6, Mark Brown 1 up and Mark McDonald 2/1 were the winners for Port Kembla, Mark Payer 20th and Sean Hussey 3/2 were winners for the Links.
Sunday's finals at Moss vale will commence from 8.00 am.
