Mittagong Cup

Eighty-nine golfers endured tough conditions at the Mittagong Cup which was held on Saturday at Highlands Golf Club. Strong winds and fast greens affected the scoring, with only seven players breaking 80. The overall winner of the event was Links Shell Cove golfer Colin Mitchell with a round of 75. The Grange Open

A field of 81 which included 25 golfers on handicaps of five or less contested The Grange Open on Sunday. The course proved a stern test for the players and the scores reflected this.

In the Overall Gross division, Links Shell Cove’s Colin Mitchell was looking to make it a weekend double after winning Saturday’s Mittagong Cup, however a closing quadruple bogey from Mitchell meant that a four way playoff would be needed to determine the winner. Mitchell, Darcy Boyd (Stonecutters Ridge), Dean Neill (Dunheved) and Blake Hollick (Mollymook) all finished at five over par 77. Boyd was crowned champion after the four hole playoff. The Overall Nett winner was local member Robert Kerr with a fine 69. The grade winners in the gross were: A grade - Blake Hollick (Mollymook) 77c/b, B grade - Adrian Smith 85 (Worrigee Links), C Grade - Joshua Shoveller 93 (Wollongong). The grade winners in the nett were: A grade - James Toomey 73 (Links Shell Cove), B Grade Bruce Brownlow 73 (Kiama), C Grade Tim Wakeling (The Grange) 71.
