Darcy Boyd has taken out both the Kiama Open and Southern Tablelands Cup on the weekend.
A field of 180, including 37 visitors teed it up for Saturday’s Laird’s Framing & Art Kiama Open. The course proved a test for the area’s best golfers with only three in the field breaking 70. Darcy Boyd who plays out of Stonecutters Ridge recently started working in the pro shop at Kiama and used his local knowledge to advantage with his two under par 64 which saw him claim the title of open champion by two shots from Link’s Shell Cove golfer Colin Mitchell who shot 66. Clubmate Danny Nesbitt was third after a 67. Kiama golfers took out lower grades. Peter Steel shot 80 and Steven Harrod 89 to win B and C grade respectively. The overall nett winner was Mario Bartolic with nett 62.
Darcy Boyd made it two wins in a row with victory in Sunday’s Southern Tablelands Cup held at Moss Vale Golf Club. He got off to a slow start to be three over par after three holes, he then played the next fifteen holes seven under par, which included two eagles, four birdies and one bogey to finish with a four under 67. Minor placings were taken out by Shoalhaven Heads golfer Mark Johnston with a three under 68, and Colin Mitchell on one under 70.
The two victory’s see Darcy lead the Advanced Truck Repair and Auto Care Illawarra Open Series after four rounds with 425 points, with Darren Payne second on 365.
